Lennon's Birth Story

On October 20th I had my last cervical check appointment with Dr. Shah. He said I was 3cm and 80% effaced; and I'm 99.999999% sure he stripped my membranes because when he removed his hand three of his rubber-gloved fingers were blood tinged. He said if I didn't go into labor by that night that he'd induce me that Saturday (the 24th), so I scheduled it with the receptionist - which I thought was weird since I was just 38 weeks and 3 days sperminated. Anyways, I left and went to Del Taco for lunch. I had been having OMG massive contractions since leaving Dr. Shah's, but didn't think anything of it because that had happened at ever cervical check up until this point. I ordered my food and then I went to el bano; when I wiped I noticed a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE amount of my mucous plug on the tp, and again thought nothing of it. I ate my quesadilla and drank my Cherry Coke and immediatly felt queasy afterwards.

I got home around 4pm and just relaxed with the family watching tv and what-not. Around 10pm I decided to call it a night and laid down. I was just about to watch "Sons of Anarchy" when I heard a loud "pop" and ran off to the bathroom. As soon as I sat down my water exploded into the toilet. I screamed for my sister to come in the bathroom, but she just turned up her tv. I got up, pretty sure that the water was done rushing, and banged on her door for about 5 minutes before she eventually came out to open it. I told her my water broke and I needed mom - NOW!!!!! I ran off to the bathroom just as more water was pouring out and sat on the toilet until mom arrived.

Mom and Sabrina rushed into the bathroom and asked if I was sure my water broke. I stood up off the toilet to show them the contents inside - Mom said that it was my water and said she was going downstairs to change so we could go to the hospital; Sabrina looked like she was going to vomit. I put on a new pad and grabbed a towel to sit on in the car then headed downstairs to find BOTH MY PARENTS BACK IN BED. LOL they were trying to "wake up" - I think they weren't sure it was my water and didn't wanna head into the hospital incase it was a false alarm again. So me and Sabrina headed to Arrowhead and the parentals followed behind.

Sabrina and I got to Arrowhead at about 11pm - after she drove like a MANIAC to get there because she didn't want me leaking all over her car - and I waddled up to Labor and Delivery, leaving a trail of amniotic fluid in my wake. I got to Traige and was filling out paperwork as fast as I could so I could strip off my nasty wet clothes and put on the drab hospital gown. 30 minutes later I was safe and as comfortable as I could be in my hospital bed. Mom came in as soon as they arrived and sat with me while they did the BST to check if it was infact amniotic fluid. My nurse, Jessica, was super sweet and said she wasn't even going to send it in because she knew by looking - and that I was actively leaking AND had bloody show - that it was amniotic fluid and I was in active labor. We were in Triage until 1am (they had to wait until one of the big rooms cleared out before moving me) when they finally got a L&D room for me. Jessica was now no longer my nurse, Vanessa the night nurse was (she was NOT my favorite). Vanessa told me to walk around for an hour and then she'd check me again for progress.

It's now 2am on October 21st and I'm hooked up to all the moniters and IV. I'm now 4cm dilated and 100% effaced. The contractions are HORRIBLE, to the point of me catching my breath everytime one comes around. Vanessa asks me when I want my epidural, and I keep telling her "not yet". By 3am I decide now's the time to get it. I loved how at ease the epidural made me, but I absolutely HATED the process of putting it in. Especially having to bend completely over while contracting - not fun!! Vanessa put a foley catheter inside me, then propped me up on my left side, and was pretty much a no-show until 8am. Dr. Shah came in and checked me around 8:30 am and I was still a 4, so they started Pitocin. The Pitocin made me VERY sleepy (in the end I slept through most of my labor haha). At 9am my new (and favorite) nurse, Sherilyn, came in to greet me. She asked me how long I had been propped up on the left and I told her about 6 hours and she about shit a brick. She switched sides and said that Vanessa should have been switching me every hour to keep my progress going. She propped me up on the right, gave me more ice chips and said she'd be back in an hour to switch me again. I fell into a deep sleep until about 11am and called Sherilyn back in the room because I was feeling very feverish. She took my temp and it was about 100 degrees. She cut back on checking my cervix because she didn't want to cause an infection and said she'd be back at 1 to see how far I was (at 11 I was a 6). At 1 she checked me and said I was at an 8 and when she came back at 2:30 we'd start pushing.

Sherilyn came back at 2:15, checked me (I was now a 10) and had me do some practice pushes. I pushed 3 times and Bunny's head was already crowning!!!! but she was also decreasing in heartrate, so Sherilyn had me put on the oxygen mask. At 2:30 Dr. Shah came in and I knew this was the real-deal, my daughter was going to be in my arms soon! I pushed for about 27 minutes and then it happened - at 2:57 pm, weighing 7 pounds and 2 ounces, and measuring 20 inches long - Lennon was out and screaming and on my chest and I was trying to love on her but was in shock of what had just transpired. Mom cut the umbilical cord. Dr. Shah said I had 3 first-degree tears and had his med student sew me up (he did AMAZINGLY because you can't even tell). Sherilyn upped the pitocin to expel the placenta, and expel it did. It shot clear across the room!! After it came out Dr. Shah congratulated me then headed out. Sherilyn had to call him back 5 minutes later because I wasn't stopping bleeding.. I lost about 1000cc of blood. Lennon had to go to the nursery right after since she had a bit of a fever too ):

Dr. Shah came back in and decided to do a D&C since I was pretty much pouring blood - turns out part of the placenta didn't want to leave quite yet. After 30 minutes of uterine massage (thank GOD I had that epi) my uterus had contracted enough to make the nurses happy and I got to have my family (my parents and sister had been in the hospital since we go there the night before; My grandparents showed up at 11am on the 21st; and C didn't get there until 3pm) back in the room. I finally got to hold my baby girl, and as I looked at her I thought I could never love somebody so little and so much as I did her.

We were still in the delivery room until 8pm when we got moved to a post partum room.  My nurse that first night was the most amazing woman ever.  She brought me food since I hadn't had anything the day before - Del Taco - and checked on me and Lennon periodically.  Lennon and I were eventually discharged on October 23rd and I could never imagine my life without her.

Welcome to the world Lennon Rose
